VINTAGE WALLPAPER.......COLLAGE!!!!!

Hey Y'all.  Okay, here's the deal, the Hartwell Service League is having a Mistletoe Market at the Art Center in downtown Hartwell, GA starting next Saturday, 12/3, through 12/23.  My "booth" will have my new vintage wallpaper collages.....and I must say they are awesome.  The pics don't do them justice.  I love these little buggers and want to keep them all for myself.  They are originals, not prints.  Priced at $15.00 each they include the mat and backing and are signed by Moi and ready to frame.  Also there will be prints of several of my cold wax pieces including "Lily Pond" now featured twice in Dick Blick's holiday catalogs.......  I bought this wallpaper on Ebay several years ago and it has been sitting around my studio forever.....  This series is called "Light" and features the silhouette of a lamp (or the negative part of the silhouette) cut out in vintage wallpaper and collaged to another sheet of vintage wallpaper.  I will also have two larger ones on grasscloth that will be framed.  Here's a little peak with my terrible photo skills.......

WRESTLING WITH THE COLLAGE ANGEL

I absolutely love collage done well and am cautiously entering into this medium (or is it media, I never know for sure).  Most of my collages generally turn out looking like something my mother would have posted on the fridge growing up.  In other words, awful.  But, I press on.  Favorites include anything done with silhouettes, old letters and vintage print, and retro stuff like the 50's icons of funky shapes and even musical instruments.  So, with all that in mind, I'm working on some retro collages, some with simple shapes, and some more intricate with old envelopes, letters, and other vintage material.  I hate struggling with new materials, but that's how you learn.  Since I took to the cold wax and oil medium right away and generally encaustics also, it pains me to have to struggle with collage.  I tend to over think it.  Anyhoo, we'll see what transfires.  Here is an example of collage done well....... Can't tell you the artist (so sorry about that) but this is what I'm about!!!!  Looks simple, right?  It ain't....believe me!!!!!!

You can find my art work here, here, and here!!!!!!

My "stuff" is in several places this season.....starting with my galleries:  Hang It Up Gallery hangitupgalleryandstudios.com in Hartwell, Ga.  Here, you can find my fine art including cold wax and oil, photoencaustics, and my line of furniture using Annie Sloan Chalk Paints anniesloan.com .  Going further north into the foothills of Toccoa, Ga  at Dream Givers Gallery dreamgiversgallery.com , you can also find my cold wax and oil paintings and lots of other good stuff.  I love both these galleries for their commitment to the artist and the diversity of art and "other fine things."  Check it out.

I'll also be featuring some prints of cold wax and oil paintings at the Mistletoe Market at Hart Regional Art Center, hartregionalartscouncil.org, and also several prints of some new collages I have come up with.......The Mistletoe Market is part of the Tour of Homes in downtown Hartwell on December 3rd and 4th, with tickets being sold at Bailes-Cobb in Hartwell.  I believe this event is sponsored by the Service League of Hartwell.....

If that's not enough, you can find my bird and botanical art at Restoration House restorationhouse.net in Hartwell, along with birdhouses by Kathy Bryant (who happens to be my sister, or at least she claims to be!!!!).

It has been an awesome year at Work of Hart......lots of great feedback, awards, national and international exposure......and sold artwork.  New things up my sleeve.....and more to come.

WHAT'S BEHIND DOOR NUMBER TWO?

Kathy Bryant, owner of hangitupgalleryandstudios.com and I have a new venture two doors down from HIUG at restorationhouse.net .  Kathy's bird houses and my bird art will be featured in RJ's (the owner of RH) garden area.  You must see this; it's awesome.  Anyway, here's an example of some bird art I've been working on today.  All the painting is done in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.  The painting is done on Ampersand Claybord Smooth in ASCP colors of Scandanavian Pink, Provence (blue), and Cream.  The cute birds are done in Graphite.  The frame is painted in Paris Grey and topped with Old Violet.  All this is treated to a coat of ASCP clear wax and then distressed with ASCP dark wax.  Buffed to a fine sheen and ready to hang........Come see us!!!!  As always you can see my fine art at workofhart.net .

IMPERFECTLY PERFECT.........

My refurbished furniture line is called Imperfectly Perfect!!!!  This basically means that I refurbish (paint and patch) what you can see and leave alone what you can't!!!  I don't want to do that much work.  I'm using the incredible Annie Sloan Chalk Paints.  Just an awesome paint that clings to anything; no priming, no sanding, nothing......

This cute table was rescued from under a table cloth in my Mother's living room.  It is done in Olive and Napoleon Blue.  You can see this beauty at hangitupgalleryandstudios.com in Hartwell, Ga.  The owner of Hang It Up, Kathy Bryant, and I are opening our little garden art and yard art booth inside Restoration House restorationhouse.net in Hartwell, Ga.  RJ, the owner, has three rooms in the back of the garden area and we'll be in the middle.  Kathy's bird houses and glass totems will be for sale, and I'll have all manner of botanical and bird art for sale.  We're just getting started so come over to Restoration House and check it out and then wander down the sidewalk to Hang It Up.  We have you covered in Hartwell for home, garden, and art........

FALL IS MY FAVORITE TIME OF THE YEAR........

After the sauna summer we had here in Northeast Georgia I'm ready for some cool weather.....It has turned out to be an awesome wonder of leaf peeping.  And there are an awesome number of leaves in my yard!

I had the honor of winning third place in Mixed Media at the Harvest Festival in Toccoa, Ga a couple of weeks ago.  This was sponsored by my guild, Currahee Arts.  It was a great show and many prizes and awards were given out; that's as it should be.

You can now see my work not only at hangitupgalleryandstudios.com in Hartwell, GA, but also at dreamgiversgallery.com in Toccoa, Ga.  Both of these galleries are small enough to lend personal attention to the art buyer, but large enough to have a great variety.  Both are run by very knowledgeable people and offer a welcoming vibe.......Check them out and check me out!!!!!

Imperfectly Perfect......

I mentioned several posts back that I had started a line of furniture called "Imperfectly Perfect."  This is "reclaimed" and "found" furniture and assessory pieces painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, distressed in various ways (somewhat like I am!!!!), and finished with a glowing coat of clear wax.  This beautiful piece was recently sold by hangitupgalleryandstudios.com .  It is painted in ASCP Duck Egg Blue and Versailles.  As other pieces develop, I'll be posting pics.  Thanks to my cousin Collin Bryant for taking such beautiful pictures, as it found a home with her mother!!!!!!

Currahee Arts Show, Harvest Festival, Toccoa, GA

What a great show and I'm not just saying that because I won!!!!  Well, yes that's part of it.  But, really, folks, if you missed the Harvest Festival in Toccoa, Ga, you missed a good one.  Everything a country festival should be, but small enough to enjoy.  My guild, Currahee Arts, put on a fantastic show.  So many categories and prizes and awards....again, just the way a good show should be.  And your's truly won third place in Mixed Media for one of my personal favorites, Flag, a cold wax and oil piece.  Currently, you can see these three pieces along with "Summer of Love" (no photo yet) at dreamgiversgallery.com down town in Toccoa, GA.  This is a new gallery for me and it is awesome.  You can also see my work at hangitupgalleryandstudios.com in Hartwell, Ga.

WHAT AN HONOR!!!!

A couple of months ago, a representative of Ampersand contacted me on behalf of Dick Blick Art Materials.  It seems that Dick Blick had seen my cold wax and oil piece, "Lilly Pond," on the Ampersand site and wanted to feature it in their Christmas catalog.  I, of course, said a resounding yes and promptly forgot about it.  Today, I was leafing through the new Blick catalog and low and behold......drumroll, choir of angels, trumpet sounds, there it is.  I'm so honored.  Here is the page, front of Blick catalog, and my original piece.  They mentioned my website workofhart.net.  Thank you Ampersand  and Dick Blick.  Also, thanks to the wonderful owners of hangitupgalleryandstudios.com , who promote and sell my work.

Some more ASCP and Wood Icing.

I can't get enough of Annie's paint (see prior post).  This is a piece I did with Wood Icing woodicing.com .  Wood Icing is just awesome.  This was done through a stencil and then painted with acrylic paints in my "patented!!!!!!" three-step process.  The frame is Annie Sloan Chalk Paint "Arles," a beautiful buttery yellow, with clear wax and dark wax finish.  A great combination.....You can see this at hangitupgalleryandstudios.com .  See more wood icing work at heatherhaymart.com .
