ART, MY WAY!!!!!!

I think every artist, of whatever stripe has a certain way they like to work.  Heck, maybe they don't even like "their way."  I know I don't particularly like mine, but I find it's the only way I can do it.  So, here's what I do:  I have these great bursts of energy and produce several pieces and then I hibernate.  I can't even look at art, and, then, I'm back at it again.  I would much rather get up at the same time every day, trudge down to the studio, produce my 2.5 pieces of art on schedule, and do it again the next day.  FLASH OF INSIGHT HERE:  Maybe this comes from working all my life  on someone else's predetermined schedule.  We're almost on a schedule from the time we are born.  To deviate from that is an act of treason and it's down right un-American.  I mean who do we artists think we are that we can sleep in, stay up all  hours of the night, eat whenever we want to, produce our art, thumb our collective noses at convention.  Sounds suspiciously like retirement to me!!!!! 

What's the point of all this, you say.  I'm finding myself making "art" into a job and I don't like it.  Some changes are in order (surprise) and to be announced later.  I've had a productive and insightful few months and am looking in a new direction.  The girls at Hang It Up Gallery  and I are cooking up something interesting for our patrons and followers, and we'll be letting you know about it.  Otherwise, it's 10:30 in the morning and I'm going back to bed!!!!!  See ya later!!!!!

THE LOFT/SENECA, SC

One of the outcomes of the recent POP tour at The Reserve was an invitation to join an artists' co-op in Seneca SC called The Loft.  Every other month on the third Friday they have a "Downtown-Go-Around."  Businesses stay open on Ram Cat Alley and other downtown streets.  So happens it's tonight from 5:30-8:30.  Jazz, art, food; it doesn't get any better than that.  See my art at The Loft in downtown Seneca, SC.  And there are other awesome artists on display in this great venue.  Talent abounds!!!!!

CURRAHEE ARTS SHOW/TOCCOA, GA

It was my honor to receive 1st place in Mixed Media at the Currahee Arts Show in Toccoa, Ga last Saturday night.  An awesome show and my first at this venue.  Some beautiful work and I felt proud to be in such company.  My winning piece was "Candy Cane," (see left) an encaustic and oil and cold wax piece.  The middle piece is "Black Tie" and the far right piece is "Seasons," an encaustic and oil and cold wax piece that recently won 2nd place in Mixed Media the Lavonia Downtown Development Authority Arts Show.  All-in-all a very nice month.......

We had a great time during this tour.  Lots of folks came through The Reserve at Lake Keowee.  This place is just awesome.  Lots of nice folks made it a real getaway for the Hang It Up girls and me.
